WEEK 4 MATCH-UPS
GAME OF THE WEEK (available on 100.5 fm and nta.fm)
GUILFORD (3-0) at BOYLAN (3-0)
Last Year The Titans shut the Vikings out in their own house in a 32-0 rout.
This Year Both teams enter undefeated. Arguments can be made for both teams to their dominance. Boylan has had three very close ones, but they were against arguably 3 of the next best teams in the conference. Guilford has beaten weaker adversaries, but they have all been absolutely dominant shutouts. Neither have shown signs of letting up and the Vikings have something to prove.
LUTHERAN (3-0) at WINNEBAGO (3-0)
Last Year Lutheran squeaked out a 37-34 win, in what was a low-scoring game in this big rivalry in which these two former "basketball schools" routinely put up hoops-like scores against each other.
This Year Rev up your engines! The loaded Big Northern West was predicted to be a three team race and with three undefeated teams left , hasn't disappointed. 646 yards is a good season for many runningbacks and Lutheran's sophomore James Robinson has picked that up in three games. Both teams can light up a scoreboard so it should be a shootout.
BELVIDERE NORTH (2-1) at HARLEM (2-1)
Last Year Harlem overcame a slow start to pull away and beat the Blue Thunder 49-27.
This Year Both teams are 2-1. Harlem could not overcome Boylan while the Blue Thunder scored a HUGE upset over Hononegah. Harlem has done it rushing by committee and North has done it through the air on the arm of QB Jace Bankord. A possible shootout awaits and a win would be huge for either team.
HONONEGAH (1-2) at BELVIDERE (2-1)
Last Year The Indians dominated the Bucs in a 55-14 rout in which their rushing attack went bananas.
This Year Both teams are reeling from "upset" losses last week. Hononegah got upset by North in a surprise and Auburn returned to playoff form and knocked off the Bucs. The Bucs need to stack more wins and Hononegah can't afford to pick up many more losses as they still have Guilford and Harlem to play.
FREEPORT (1-2) at EAST (0-3)
Last Year Freeport was off and running, literally as they ran all over the E- Rabs 47-21.
This Year Freeport goes for a second straight win over a Rockford Public School after knocking off jefferson last week. East needs to show signs of life, and stop big Steve McShane and the rest of the Freeport rushing attack
JEFFERSON (0-3) at AUBURN (1-2)
Last Year Auburn pulled away and beat its stadium-mate 26-14 for its 2nd win of the season.
This Year After picking up a big win over Belvidere last week the Knights want to prove last year was no fluke and build on it with a return to the playoffs. Jefferson is reeling from an "oh-so-close" loss to Freeport in a contest they were leading multiple times.
