Northern Illinois University Police Chief Donald Grady is out of a job. The Chicago Tribune reports Chief Grady was fired more than three months after he was put on paid leave for his department's alleged misconduct in a high profile rape case. The Tribune quotes NIU Acting Director of Public Safety  Bill Nicklas as stating that the chief likely "ordered, encouraged, or condoned the with-holding of evidence that could have cleared an NIU officer accused of rape".  The rape case against former NIU officer Andrew Rifkin was dismissed  and Rifkin has since filed a lawsuit against Grady and the University for allegedly mishandling the case. The Tribune reports Grady's attorney, Michael Fox, is vowing to appeal the dismissal. Chief Donald Grady was hailed by many for his response to the February 14,2008 massacre on campus when five students were killed and 21 were injured by a gunman who then killed himself.
