Governor Quinn is renewing his call for a ban on assault weapons in Illinois. The Governor says assault weapons and high capacity magazines have no place on the streets of Illinois and he says lawmakers should consider making schools, malls, and sports stadiums gun-free zones as they craft a bill for concealed carry. On top of banning assault weapons, Governor Quinn wants to strengthen background checks for those looking to purchase a firearm. He also wants counties to provide to state police updated mental health records so guns don't end up in the wrong hands.
