Unemployment in Winnebago and Boone Counties fell to 11.2 percent during December. That's down from 12.3 percent in the two county area in December of 2011. The Illinois Department of Employment Security says it's the lowest December unemployment reading in the two county area since  2007 when ithe rate was 7.2 percent. There was job growth last month in manufacturing and professional-business services. Unemployment in the City of Rockford fell to 12.5 percent last month compared to 13.6 percent in December of 2011.
