Standoff on Yonge Street ends peacefully
     A standoff on Rockford's northwest side ends peacefully. Police say 32 year old Rashad Pelzer surrendered after being hole up for hours inside 2404 Yonge Street. Police say a 10 year old boy called 911 shortly before 4:30  this morning saying his mom's boyfriend, Rashad Pelzer, was beating her. Police say the woman and her children fled the house and said Pelzer was armed with a handgun. Pelzer retreated inside. Police tried without luck to coax Pelzer out of the house. Neighboring homes were evacuated and the SWAT Team was activated. Police re-established phone contact with Pelzer and allowed two of his relatives to try and talk him outside. Police negotiators finally convinced Pelzer to come outside at 1:25 this afternoon. It's unclear whether a weapon was recovered. Charges are pending.

Update:Standoff on northwest Rockford side
   Rockford Police are still involved in a standoff on the city's northwest side. Police say they responded to a domestic battery incident early today at 2404 Yonge Street. A woman tells Police she was battered by her boyfriend. The woman and her children fled and the suspect remains inside the house. The woman tells Police the man is armed with a handgun. Police have identified the suspect as 32 year old Rashad Pelzer. Police say Pelzer is wanted for a parole violation and has several prior weapons offenses including Aggravated Assault to a Police Officer, Armed Robbery,and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. Police say Pelzer has refused to surrender and has cut off contact with anyone.Police negotiators are trying to re-establish contact with Pelzer. The SWAT Team has been activated and authorities are asking the public to avoid the area until the situation has been resolved.

Standoff on Rockford's northwest side
   A domestic battery incident on Rockford's northwest side turns into a standoff. Police say they respondd early this morning to a report of a man battering a woman inside 2404 Yonge Street. The woman fled the house with her children...leaving the man inside. The woman tells police the man is armed with a handgun. Police say they've made phone conact with the suspect...who refuses to exit the house. Police say the suspect is wanted for a parole violation warrant and has prior weapons offenses. Police are asking the public to avoid the area until this situation is resolved.

Concealed Carry delay
    Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is asking for another month to decide whether to appeal a ruling on concealed carry. As it stands now, Madigan has to make the decision by June 24th. Governor Pat Quinn has until July 9th to take action on the bill and some believe Madigan wants to wait and see what the Governor will do before making her decision. In the meantime, officials in at least three Illinois counties  have decided to let people go ahead and carry guns in public, claiming they won't enforce a law that's unconstitutional.

Pension reform update
   More than two dozen elected officials are calling on Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan to take a vote on the Senate's pension bill. Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka is among those who say the Senate plan is the best deal for the state, claiming it represents real pension reform that will stabilize the pension systems and get the state's finances under control. The Senate plan asks workers to make changes to their retirement package and gives them several options to choose from. The elected officials say the Senate bill is more likely to clear the court for constiutionality. They're asking Speaker Madigan to call the bill for a vote during a special session Wednesday.

Minnesota man dies at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit
     A Minnesota man is dead after crashing his vintage car over the weekend at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit. The Winnebago County Coroners Office says 70 year old Robert Hanneman of Burnsville, Minnesota lost control of his vehicle and crashed during a race Sunday morning. Hanneman was flown by helicopter to Rockford Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Coroners Office says Hanneman died from blunt trauma to his head.
