When is the last time you stopped at one of these?

As a child when my parents would go on vacation in the early days of the Interstate Highway System (meaning it has just started to be built and most travel was on the U.S. Route system) there were some places I would almost beg my dad to stop because the signs or the buildings were neat looking.  Stuckey's was one of them.

My dad never stopped at one, but I finally did at the age of 24 when I was traveling on Highway 41 just south of Terre Haute, Indiana.  It was a fun place to stop and I did buy one of their famous pecan logs.  However, in the last 30 + years, the number of Stuckey's has diminished as most folks use the Interestate Highways to travel and many that continue to exist, such as this sign to the Terre Haute facility are on their last legs.

However, the family of the original owners are buying back the rest stop/gas station/restaurant buildings and are trying to bring them back to their past glory.  I wish them luck in doing so.

Hey Mark, How ya doing? I remember Stuckey's and loved it when I traveled back and forth to Kentucky and back every so often. The souveneirs and postcards were just awesome to bring back to friends and yes, the pecan logs were scrumptous!
